FAQ

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Am I too old for the basic program or the 2 year program?

Basically we have no age limits. It depends more on your motivation and your physical condition. The average age is mid-20s, but once our students get to know each other, age is often no longer an issue.

Can I work during the full-time training?

As our programs are very intensive, we recommend that you do not have any side jobs which are time or energy consuming during the training program. However, of course, each person has to decide for him/herself. In many cases, dance teachers continue to teach their classes or students continue to work in other artistic fields.

What technique do you teach?

In our training programs you will learn how to use your body in a multifaceted way, so that you are well prepared to enter into any kind of movement practice. For us, it’s not about following one specific technique, but rather about teaching you technical and biomechanical principles that will allow you to use your body in a gentle and powerful way. Additionally, one of our main focuses is on improvisation as a performance art. We work with different improvisation tools and approaches with the ultimate goal of creating a performance on stage in the moment. Therefore our teaching consists of a wide-range of content - from contact improvisation, to Feldenkrais, to composition.

Is it possible to watch or participate for a day?

Yes, it is possible to observe our 2 year program. You can come on a day of your choice from Monday to Thursday. Please contact us and we will arrange a suitable date.
The visit will take place in such a way that you arrive in the morning at the start of class and can observe the whole day. Physical participation is not possible, therefore please bring warm clothes with you.

Do you offer scholarships?

Unfortunately no. bewegungs-art does not have sufficient financial resources to offer scholarships. However, we can meet you half way with smaller monthly payments over a longer period of time.

CONTINUED EDUCATION

I have already completed a dance training. How will your continued education programs help me develop further?

Many professional dancers are interested in doing their own choreographic work after their studies, but they often lack the necessary tools for material development and composition. Improvisation - for research, but also as a stage art form - is also rarely on the curriculum of dance schools. With the two short-term programs "Performance & Choreography" and "Improvisation" we want to train professional dancers in exactly these areas. It is also exciting when the local scene mixes with external artists, bringing new energies and influences to Freiburg!

PROFITRAINING FREIBURG

Why does bewegungs-art offer professional training?

bewegungs-art has made it its objective to provide a continuous opportunity for professional dancers in the Freiburg area to continue their professional development. For this purpose, a professional training - similar to those offered at other dance locations - is important and helpful. We make sure that the training is diverse and that one can taste and/or immerse themselves in the many different directions of contemporary dance.

DANCE OUTREACH

What is meant by cultural education?

The Federal Ministry of Education writes: "Cultural education is an important contribution to more educational equality in Germany. Cultural education enables people to work creatively and to actively experience art and culture. It is part of personal development as well as vocational training and continuing education. It combines not only cognitive but also emotional and creative processes. At the same time, social solidarity is significantly strengthened by a common cultural understanding. Therefore, it is of particular importance to ensure access to and participation in cultural offerings for all (...)."
You can find our approach and our understanding of cultural education as well as offers under DANCE OUTREACH.

What makes bewegungs-art's dance outreach in Freiburg so special?

Our facilitation of contemporary dance into society is based on the same principles through which we dance artists understand our work: creation is the detailed exploration of a topic with all the senses and its transformation of "solutions" into a dance expression. This process takes place collaboratively and respectfully in a creative space. We invite everyone to participate in these exciting projects.

NETWORK

What is bewegungs-art´s postitioin in the Freiburg dance scene?

(Dance) improvisation as the core and fundamental expertise of the organization enables a non-judgmental approach to movement and dance art that includes many aesthetics. With an approach inspired by improvisation, bewegungs-art offers a unique, original approach to dance that goes beyond the mainstream. Here, dance artists can come into direct contact with their own artistic freedom and develop their art in its originality.

What role does bewegungs-art play in Freiburg?

bewegungs-art has been and continues to be an organization made up of individuals who, out of their understanding of dance and art, are prepared to generate impulses on a cultural-political level which shape the Freiburg dance scene and thereby take responsibility for the greater whole. It was the seed from which a lively dance scene in this city emerged and in recent years has provided the framework to develop a sustainable network that serves all players in the scene.

The Profitraining is just one example. It has become a regular meeting place for the independent dance scene where dance professionals can come together and exchange ideas.
